There is a sign on the wall of the vacation home we used to rent in Duck, NC that says “Heaven is a little closer when you live in a house by the sea”. I think there is probably more truth in this simple statement than one would expect. Every time I am near the sea I feel the presence of God more easily. The grandness of the ocean, and the power of the sun on the beach remind me of God’s greatness and how He is involved in all the natural splendor that we experience in this life. It is a healthy reminder of how great He is, and how small I am.

We have been to the beach many times. Both of you have enjoyed trips to the Outer Banks, the Bahamas, and Mexico. These trips all cost a fair amount of money, but I think they are worth it. I have also had the opportunity to see many other beaches to include France, Greece, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii. In fact, I spent last weekend on the Southern California coast. It was great to get away and enjoy the simple things in life like a beautiful sunset. I hope to take you there one day and to other beaches so that you can experience a little more heaven here on earth.

“O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory
above the heavens.”

Psalm 8:1-2
