BB2ME 53 – fight until the end of the baseball game to win it.

Today, I will share BB2ME number 53: fight until the end to win the game. Specifically, I will describe my fondness for the 2019 Washington Nationals World Series Champions. A team that won many important baseball games that fateful year because they never quit and kept going.

I have liked baseball all my life

In this blog, I will talk about one of the sports I enjoy immensely. That is America’s pastime, baseball. When I think about it, I’ve enjoyed baseball for as long as I can remember. I have been a fan of professional baseball my entire life. Three reasons come to mind when I think about baseball. Number one, there’s a lot of strategy involved, which is fascinating if you understand the game. Two, it’s easy to watch. You don’t have to pay attention every single second. Third, your team is always in it. You can be down by 20 runs going into the ninth inning, and if your team scores 21 runs before getting three outs, you win. Not many other sports offer you that opportunity to win, regardless of the circumstances.

My favorite baseball team is the Washington Nationals.

My favorite Major League Baseball team is the Washington Nationals. Their stadium is not too far from my home, so I’m able to attend games every year. When compared to many other major league teams, the Washington Nationals are not that old. I recall when they were established as an expansion team and were generally unimpressive in their first few years. They improved greatly through draft picks and quickly rose through the ranks to become a championship-level team.

Taking my sons to baseball games is fun.

One of the things I enjoy is going to Nationals Park to watch a baseball game with my sons. We always have a good time at the ballpark. Below, you see a picture of us in the outfield, the two of them goofing off as we get ready to watch some baseball, eat some ice cream, and sing ” Take Me Out to the Ballpark.”

In 2019 the Nationals won the World Series.

In 2019, the unimaginable happened. The Washington Nationals baseball team won the World Series. It came as a surprise for several reasons. One, the team was not their best team. In previous years, they’d had a stronger roster. Bryce Harper had left, and several wondered if the team was on the decline. Second, they started awful that season, losing a lot of games. They finally gained steam later in the season. Third, they barely squeaked into the playoffs. No one expected them to make it to the World Series, much less bring home the championship.

BB2ME #53 – stay in the fight and finish it.

Why I wrote this BB2ME

I wrote this billboard because I have such fond memories of the 2019 World Series champion Washington Nationals baseball team. I recall watching game seven. The Nationals were away at the Houston Astros. They were losing two to nothing in the seventh inning when Anthony Rendon came to the plate and hit a home run. This hit gets the rally going. The next thing you know, the Nationals are the World Series champions. My dad, my mom, and I were thrilled about this victory, especially my dad, who loved baseball. I’m glad he got a chance to see them win the World Series before he passed away the next year.

How I incorporated this billboard into my life

I incorporated this billboard into my life by pondering how the Nationals won the World Series. They weren’t the best team. They won because they had fun and a joy for the game. They had certain mantras, such as fighting to the finish, and were able to keep going no matter what the situation. Multiple times during the playoffs, it looked like they were done. They didn’t quit. Instead, they stayed in the fight and saw it through to the end.

What about you?

Do you know how to stay in the fight and see it through to the end? Do you fold the tent and quit as soon as you face adversity? If so, you’re going to have a rough life. There’s a saying that cheaters never win. I believe that quitters never win, either. Stay in the fight and finish it just like the Washington Nationals did in 2019 to win the World Series, baseball’s greatest championship.

I am Doug Keating, and this is my letter to my sons.
