Today we are going to Germany. Here are five reasons I love vacationing in Germany.

The #1 reason I love vacationing in Germany – Family heritage

My mother is German. She was born and raised in Dresden, Germany. She and my father met and married in Berlin. I lived in Bavaria for several years when I was stationed there in the 1990s. My family comes from Germany. It has a special place in my heart due to my family heritage.

Reason #2 – German Beer

Germans make the best beer in the world, hands down. The reason is that they have strict purity laws that prevent brewers from putting crap into the beer. If you want a funky beer, go to Belgium, or visit your local craft brewery. If you want to drink the best beer in the world, grab a big ole mug of German beer and drink the whole thing. Prost! Sad news – Oktoberfest is canceled again this year. Bummer – I want to get back there one day.

Good to the last drop!

Reason #3 – the sites in Germany

Germany is packed full of great sites to see. They have awesome castles like Neuschwanstein and Hohenzollern. Huge cathedrals to include the one in Cologne. The Alps are on the southern border. Visit some of the well-preserved cities like Rothenberg. Drive around the country and experience all the wonderful things to see and do.

Reason #4 – Food

I am not going to lie. German food is pretty heavy. It includes a lot of sausages, bread, meat, sauerkraut, potatoes. If that is what you like to eat, then you will love German food. Other choices are schweinhaxen, knoedel, bratwurst, and various desserts. Be careful – with all that food and beer it is easy to pack on the pounds while there.

Classic German meal – sausage and sauerkraut.

Reason #5 – Autobahn

Who doesn’t enjoy driving over 100 miles per hour? It is a lot of fun flying down the autobahn. Word to the wise – be careful and follow the German traffic laws. They use the left lane to pass only. Don’t get caught driving slow. You will hear from German drivers if you get in the way. I love the autobahn because it is an efficient way to get around the country from place to place. Also, German cars are made to drive on the Autobahn. Rent one if you can.

Bonus reason – soccer

The greatest soccer team in the world, Bayern Munich, is in Germany. I usually watch their games every weekend. This list would not be complete without soccer on the list.

Beer and Bundesliga make for a wonderful day.

Three quick questions about vacationing in Germany

We plan to visit Riley and take the kids to Bavaria this year.
