We were able to vacation in Bavaria last summer. During the trip, we went all over and toured multiple cities. Here are five reasons I love visiting the fascinating German City of Nuremberg.

The #1 reason I love visiting Nuremberg Germany – my son

My younger son, Riley, lives there. Yes – that is correct. He is over in Germany chasing his dream of playing professional soccer. He is doing well and having a great time. Riley’s soccer skills are improving, he is learning German. Nuremberg has a special place in my heart because Riley lives there.

Riley enjoys living in Nuremberg.

Reason #2 – sites

Nuremberg is an important German city. It contains a walkable old city center. You can see several things like churches, a castle up on a hill, and the old city walls. The Pegnitz river flows through the city, offering wonderful views. You can easily spend a day or two touring the sites to include Albrecht Durer’s house.

Reason #3 – Christmas market

Yes – you read that correctly. Nuremberg hosts a world-famous Christmas market every winter. It normally runs between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day. If you visit Europe during the winter holiday season and want to visit a classic Christmas market – put Nuremberg on your agenda. It is one of the best.

We hope to return to Nuremberg this winter.

Reason #4 – history

Nuremberg has been an important city in Germany for hundreds of years. It was an Imperial city back when the Holy Roman Empire existed. The Emperor built the fortress in Nuremberg so that he could stay there when in the city. Nuremberg played an important role during the Third Reich and it was where the trials took place after WWII. Check out all the sites and museums to learn the history of this fascinating German city.

Reason #5 – food

This city is famous for its wursts. Nuremberger bratwursts are smaller than regular ones, yet they taste great. Consider me a fan, so give them a try. During the winter holiday season the city sells a lot of gingerbread cookies. Many people love them. I think they are just okay. Don’t take my word, sample some to make up your own mind. Of course, Nuremberg contains several outstanding breweries serving excellent Bavarian beer.

We enjoyed several meals during our stay.

Three quick questions about visiting Nuremberg

We took a bunch of great photos by the Pegnitz river.
