I’m returning to my top 50 favorite rock bands. In this video series, I’m identifying the best three albums by each band. This blog is for band #35 – Husker Du.

Criteria for selecting the best three albums

First, the band must have more than three albums. Husker Du was not around very long but they do have more than three records. Second, Greatest Hits albums are allowed. You will not see one today. Third no live recordings. I saw this band back in the day at a small concert venue. They were crazy fun, full of punk energy, and thrashing hard. Unfortunately, their live recordings are not so great.

The third-best album by this band is Candy Apple Grey

Husker Du’s third-best album is called Candy Apple Grey. I actually own this one on vinyl. It was the first album that was released on a major record label by this band. Some of their fans did not care for this album. I like it. The production is so much clearer than some of the early records. If you like thrash punk go to their early stuff. But, if you want to hear some good music from this band here’s the place to start.

The second-best album by Husker Du

The second-best album by Husker Du is called Flip Your Wig. Once again good production for a heavy-sounding band. I like a lot of the songs on this one. Sure there are a few throwaways but an overall excellent album.

The best album by Husker Du

The best album by Husker Du is called Warehouse. It is their final album before they broke up. This double LP is chock full of great songs like “Ice Cold Ice”. Now I know that some of you saying whoa whoa, what about Zen Arcade? One of their early double records that some people think is epic. But, I’m not a fan of it. I own Zen Arcade on vinyl. I barely ever listen to it. The songs are just not that great and the production is really subpar. If you want the Masterpiece by this band it is Warehouse.

There you have it – the three best Husker Du albums. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

I am Doug Keating and this is my letter to my sons.
