I’m returning to my top 50 favorite rock bands. In this video series, I’m identifying the best three albums by each band. This blog is for band #39 – The Cars.

Criteria for selecting the best three albums

First, the band must have released more than three albums. Second Greatest Hits albums are allowed. The Cars have released multiple greatest hits albums. None of them made this list. Third live albums are permitted. I must confess that I have not listened to any of the live Cars albums. The reason being when I saw them live in concert back in the day they were kind of boring.

The third-best album by this band is Candy-O

The third-best Cars album is Candy-O. It is their sophomore record. It is really good and should have got more attention. The reason it didn’t is that their debut album was so good. I’ll talk about that in a moment or two. Several great songs are on this record including the title track.

The second-best album by The Cars

The second-best album by The Cars is Heartbeat City. When the band released this album they’d kind of fallen out of national attention. This record brought them back with a bang. It dropped during the golden years of MTV. The video for “You Might Think” was hugely popular. It included the ballad “Drive” as well as “Magic” and the title track. I own this one on vinyl that’s how good it is.

The best album by The Cars

The best album by The Cars is their debut record. It is full of hit songs. I own it on vinyl. This album includes “Let the Good Times Roll”, “My Best Friend’s Girl”, “Just What I Needed”, “You’re All I Got Tonight” and “Moving in Stereo”. It’s practically a greatest-hits album by itself. I would consider it one of the top 10 debut albums of all time and worth owning on vinyl for sure.

There you have it – the three best Cars albums. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
