I’m returning to my top 50 favorite rock bands. In this video series, I’m identifying the best three albums by each band. This blog is for band #46 – The English Beat.

Criteria for selecting the best three albums

I used three criteria to create this list. First, the band must have released at least three albums. Cutting it close with this band. They were not around for long. Greatest Hits albums are on the list. You will see one today. Third, no live albums. For example, the English Beat has a live album from the US Festival in the early 80s. It is actually pretty good, but not on the list.

The third-best album by this band is Special Beat Service

Special Beat Service includes my favorite song by this band “Save it for Later” as well as several other good songs. If you’re not familiar with this band this is a great starting place. They’re kind of ska kind of Reggae kind of New Wave, a really interesting sound.

The second-best English Beat album is I Just Can’t Stop It

The second-best album by this band is their debut record, I Just Can’t Stop It. The album includes the track “Mirror in the Bathroom”, one of my faves as well as several other catchy Tunes.

The best album by The English Beat is The Complete Beat

The best album by the English Beat is a greatest hits compilation called The Complete Beat. It has all of their best songs on this record and it’s a great listen from end to end.

There you have it – the three best English Beat albums. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

I am Doug Keating and this is my letter to my sons.
